William G. Pendleton letter to Levi Bartlett [manuscript], 1833 Jan 14.

Pendleton writes in response to Bartlett's request for information on the expenses for attending the Medical Department of the University of Virginia. Pendleton encloses a printed sheet (not present) that lists the fees. He continues: "No length of time is required for graduation--a diploma here is the evidence of the students attainments only, and whenever these are adequate, the diploma will be granted." Pendleton concludes by saying that generally one session is sufficient but, depending on the abilities of the individual student, a longer time might be required; in some cases no amount of time will be sufficient to qualify for a diploma.
